Semen is a white or grey liquid, but it can occasionally appear yellowish. Pink or red semen suggests that blood is present. Although this is very rare and happens only due to a serious health problem. Usually, each milliliter of semen contains millions of spermatozoa sperm , but the majority of the volume consists of secretions of the glands in the male reproductive organs. The purpose of semen is purely for reproduction, as a vehicle to carry the spermatozoa into the female reproductive tract. Oligospermia is the condition in which semen has a low concentration of sperm and is the leading causes of infertility.
Male fertility can be evaluated by semen analysis. Semen analysis determines the quality and quantity of semen and sperm. The normal sperm count varies from 20 to million sperms per millimeter. Azoospermia is the complete absence of motile sperm and Oligospermia is a low sperm count.

Department of Physiology, Pt. Fresh leaves of Ocimum Sanctum OS were used to study its effect on male reproductive function sperm count and reproductive hormones in male albino rabbits. Animals in the test group received supplementation of 2 g of fresh leaves of OS per rabbit for 30 days, while the control group was maintained on normal diet for the same duration. Sperm count and hormonal estimation [testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone FSH , and luteinizing hormone LH ] were done in serum samples of both groups and compared. A significant decrease was noted in the sperm count in test group rabbits.
